On Wednesday, 16 January 2013, in the evening at 17:35, in Kauno district municipality, Gervėnupio village, on Vėjo street near No. 1, a Volkswagen Crafter hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person died — a 55-year-old pedestrian. The accident was caused by the 24-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (6 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.37‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. At the time of the accident it was dark, it was overcast, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 20 km/h.
