On Saturday, 2 February 2013, in the morning at around 9:00, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Vilnius–Varėna–Gardinas main road (kilometre 47.17), an Opel Astra ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 28-year-old driver of the Opel (5 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was icy.
