On Saturday, 16 February 2013, at night at 23:40, in Alytaus district municipality, on the Valkininkų g s –Daugai–Alytus national road (kilometre 42.82), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Mitsubishi Carisma and a Fiat Bravo. Five people were injured — the 40-year-old driver of the Mitsubishi (treated as an outpatient, was not wearing a seatbelt), a 24-year-old passenger of the Fiat (treated as an outpatient), a 17-year-old passenger of the Mitsubishi (hospitalized), a 34-year-old passenger of the Fiat (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt) and the 23-year-old driver of the Fiat (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 40-year-old driver of the Mitsubishi, who entered the oncoming traffic lane. He was drunk (1.70‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. A 17-year-old passenger of the Mitsubishi was drunk (1.98‰). A 34-year-old passenger of the Fiat was drunk (1.53‰). According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
