On Saturday, 2 March 2013, in the evening at 22:36, in Plungės district municipality, on the Šiauliai–Palanga main road, a Volkswagen Passat hit an obstacle. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 17-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.66‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, there was a blizzard, a strong wind was blowing, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
