On Monday, 11 March 2013, in the evening at around 20:00, in Zarasų district municipality, on the Kaunas–Zarasai–Daugpilis main road (kilometre 169.80), a Fiat 230 (DUCATO 10 1.9 D) registered in Russia hit an animal. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 44-year-old driver of the Fiat (a citizen of Russia) (7 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
