On Monday, 8 April 2013, in the afternoon at 16:06, in Vilniaus district municipality, on the Vievis–Maišiagala–Nemenčinė national road (kilometre 30), a collision while turning left (U-turning) occurred. The collision involved a Volvo FH12 registered in Latvia, a Mazda 626 and a Toyota Yaris. One person died — the 43-year-old driver of the Toyota (later died from the injuries). The accident was caused by the 62-year-old driver of the Volvo (a citizen of Latvia) (30 years of driving experience), who failed to give way when changing direction. All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was snowing, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
