On Monday, 10 June 2013, in the morning at around 9:00, in Panevėžio district municipality, on the Panevėžys–Aristava–Sitkūnai main road (kilometre 15.70), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Mercedes-Benz Actros 1841 registered in Poland, a Schmitz registered in Poland, a Schmitz registered in Estonia and a DAF FT XF105.460 registered in Estonia. One person died — a 49-year-old passenger of the DAF (a citizen of Estonia). Two people were injured — the driver of the Mercedes-Benz (a citizen of Poland) (hospitalized) and the 54-year-old driver of the DAF (a citizen of Estonia) (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the driver of the Mercedes-Benz (a citizen of Poland) (20 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
