On Friday, 28 June 2013, in the afternoon at around 15:00, in Alytaus district municipality, on the Alytus–Simnas–Kalvarija national road (kilometre 29.30), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Volvo FH12, a Polkon PK 183, a DAF and a Kaessbohrer. One person was injured — the 47-year-old driver of the DAF (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 49-year-old driver of the Volvo (30 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
