On Sunday, 7 July 2013, in the evening at 22:35, in Šilutės district municipality, on the Meldikviršiai–Sartininkai–Žemaičių Naumiestis regional road (kilometre 35), an Audi A6 Avant hit an obstacle. Two people were injured — the 37-year-old driver of the Audi (treated as an outpatient, was not wearing a seatbelt) and a 36-year-old passenger of the Audi (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt). The accident was caused by the 37-year-old driver of the Audi, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (3.10‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. At the time of the accident it was twilight, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
