On Monday, 8 July 2013, in the morning at 9:15, in Marijampolės municipality, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 66.63), a head-on collision while overtaking occurred. The collision involved a DAF, a semi-trailer, a Scania registered in Poland, a Krone SDP27, a Renault Premium 440.18 and a Krone SDP27. One person died — the 40-year-old driver of the DAF. Two people were injured — the 57-year-old driver of the Scania (a citizen of Poland) (treated as an outpatient) and a 39-year-old passenger of the Scania (a citizen of Poland) (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 40-year-old driver of the DAF (20 years of driving experience), who violated overtaking rules. All drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
