On Wednesday, 17 July 2013, at night at around 23:00, in Lazdijų district municipality, Kalvių village, on the Leipalingis–Kapčiamiestis–Kiauknoris regional road (kilometre 21), a Toyota Carina hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person died — a 51-year-old pedestrian (later died from the injuries). The accident was caused by a 51-year-old pedestrian, who was lying on the carriageway. He was drunk. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
