On Monday, 22 July 2013, in the morning at 10:52, in Šiaulių district municipality, on the Šiauliai–Gruzdžiai–Naujoji Akmenė national road (kilometre 7.15), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Peugeot 406 and a Scania R500. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 28-year-old driver of the Peugeot (a citizen of Latvia) (less than a year of driving experience), who violated overtaking rules and failed to keep a safe distance. He was drunk (2.30‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
