On Monday, 19 August 2013, at night at 0:05, in Šilalės district municipality, Palokysčio village, on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda (d. pusė) main road (kilometre 240.84), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved an Opel Omega and a Ford Transit FT 100. Three people were injured — the 27-year-old driver of the Opel (hospitalized), a 47-year-old passenger of the Ford (treated as an outpatient) and a 35-year-old passenger of the Ford (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 27-year-old driver of the Opel (10 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
