On Saturday, 24 August 2013, at night at 2:22, in Šilutės district municipality, on the Kaunas–Jurbarkas–Šilutė–Klaipėda national road (kilometre 186.23), a BMW 530 hit an obstacle. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 22-year-old driver of the BMW, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.78‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
