On Wednesday, 11 September 2013, in the evening at around 22:00, in Kupiškio district municipality, on the Antašava–Astravai regional road (kilometre 0.42), an Opel Vectra hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person died — a 40-year-old pedestrian. The accident was caused by the 32-year-old driver of the Opel (3 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, there was fog, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
