On Monday, 7 October 2013, in the afternoon at around 15:00, in Pagėgių municipality, Stoniškių village, on the Kaunas–Jurbarkas–Šilutė–Klaipėda national road (kilometre 156.68), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Golf and a Volkswagen Passat. Two people were injured — the 59-year-old driver of the Volkswagen Passat (hospitalized) and a 49-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen Passat (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 47-year-old driver of the Volkswagen Golf, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.65‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
