On Wednesday, 4 December 2013, in the morning at around 8:00, in Šilutės district municipality, on Cintjoniškių street, at the junction with Geležinkelio street, an Opel Vectra hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. Two people were injured — a 12-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient) and a 14-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 35-year-old driver of the Opel (10 years of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. He fled the scene. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was twilight, it was raining, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
