On Sunday, 16 February 2014, in the evening at 21:28, in Kelmės district municipality, on the Užventis–Tryškiai–Viekšniai national road (kilometre 2.61), a Mazda 121 ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 40-year-old driver of the Mazda, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.78‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, there was fog, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
