On Wednesday, 26 February 2014, in the afternoon at 14:18, in Alytus, on Santaikos street, at the junction with Punsko street, a Volkswagen Passat ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 44-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (26 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.31‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. At the time of the accident it was overcast, it was snowing, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
