On Tuesday, 13 May 2014, at night at around 23:00, in Kalvarijos municipality, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 88.87), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Golf, a Berger B 100 registered in Poland and a Volvo FH12 registered in Poland. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 22-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (4 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance. He was drunk (2.23‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
