On Sunday, 24 August 2014, in the evening at 19:22, in Alytaus district municipality, Kavalčiukų village, on the Alytus–Simnas–Kalvarija national road (kilometre 29.32), a Scania R 143 EK registered in Belarus ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 27-year-old driver of the Scania (a citizen of Belarus) (2 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was raining, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
