On Sunday, 11 January 2015, in the evening at 22:20, in Prienų district municipality, on the Kaunas–Prienai–Alytus national road (kilometre 24), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Sharan, a Fiat Croma and a Volkswagen Golf. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 35-year-old driver of the Volkswagen Sharan (15 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed and entered the oncoming traffic lane. He was drunk (0.49‰ blood alcohol). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was snowing, a strong wind was blowing, the road surface was snow-covered.
