On Monday, 16 February 2015, at night at 0:13, in Kazlų Rūdos municipality, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 38.20), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved an Opel Vectra and an Opel Astra. Two people were injured — a 41-year-old passenger of the Opel Astra (treated as an outpatient) and the 33-year-old driver of the Opel Astra (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 46-year-old driver of the Opel Vectra (14 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance and failed to choose a safe speed. Both drivers were sober. A 26-year-old passenger of the Opel Vectra was drunk (1.32‰). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
