On Sunday, 5 April 2015, in the morning at 10:50, in Alytaus district municipality, on the Alytus–Simnas–Kalvarija national road (kilometre 12.40), a Ford Fiesta ran off the road. Three people were injured — a 5-year-old passenger of a BMW 740 (hospitalized), a 69-year-old passenger of the BMW (treated as an outpatient) and a 63-year-old passenger of the BMW (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 64-year-old driver of the Ford (2 years of driving experience), who failed to give way when crossing an intersection. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
