On Sunday, 31 May 2015, in the afternoon at 14:33, in Kalvarijos municipality, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 87.13), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Mercedes-Benz 1844, a Krone SDP27, a Krone SDR27 registered in Poland, a Humbaur HAK200-250 registered in Latvia and a Volkswagen Multivan registered in Latvia. One person was injured — a 60-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (a citizen of Latvia) (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 52-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (28 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance and failed to choose a safe speed. All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
