On Monday, 15 June 2015, in the afternoon at around 16:00, in Alytaus district municipality, on the Alytus–Simnas–Kalvarija national road (kilometre 12.14), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Golf and a Toyota Avensis. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 72-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (41 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance and failed to choose a safe speed. He fled the scene. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
