On Thursday, 14 January 2016, in the morning at around 8:00, in Šakių district municipality, on the Šakiai–Plokščiai regional road (kilometre 12.35), a Volkswagen Golf hit an animal. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 30-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (13 years of driving experience), who failed to comply with road signs or markings and failed to choose a safe speed.
