On Tuesday, 2 February 2016, at night at around 23:00, in Kretingos district municipality, on the Šiauliai–Palanga main road (kilometre 142.30), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Volvo, a MAN TGA 26.440 and a Krone SDC27. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 49-year-old driver of the Volvo (22 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance. He was drunk (1.71‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, a strong wind was blowing, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
