On Thursday, 17 March 2016, at night at 1:27, in Panevėžio district municipality, on the Panevėžys–Pasvalys–Ryga main road (kilometre 8), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Nissan Primera and a Mercedes-Benz E 220 CDI registered in Germany. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 45-year-old driver of the Nissan, who failed to keep a safe distance. He was drunk (1.93‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
