On Wednesday, 11 May 2016, in the evening at 17:45, in Alytaus district municipality, on the Alytus–Simnas–Kalvarija national road (kilometre 19.39), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Golf and an Audi 8D, Audi A4, -S4. Two people were injured — a 24-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (hospitalized) and the 25-year-old driver of the Audi (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 58-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (26 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance and failed to choose a safe speed. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
