On Sunday, 4 September 2016, in the afternoon at 14:28, in Druskininkų municipality, on the Leipalingis–Lazdijai–Kalvarija national road (kilometre 1), a head-on collision while overtaking occurred. The collision involved an Audi 100, a Volkswagen Passat and a Volkswagen Multivan. Three people were injured — the 27-year-old driver of the Audi (hospitalized), a 79-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen Passat (hospitalized) and a 76-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen Passat (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 27-year-old driver of the Audi, who failed to comply with road signs or markings, committed other traffic rule violations, violated overtaking rules and entered the oncoming traffic lane. He had no driving licence. All drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
