On Tuesday, 6 September 2016, in the morning at 7:33, in Marijampolės municipality, on the Mauručiai–Vinčai–Puskelniai national road (kilometre 27.71), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Golf and a Toyota RAV4. Five people were injured — the 40-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (hospitalized), a 44-year-old passenger of the Toyota (hospitalized), the 41-year-old driver of the Toyota (hospitalized), a 15-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (hospitalized) and a 26-year-old passenger of the Toyota (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 40-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (20 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident there was fog, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
