On Friday, 23 September 2016, at night at 23:20, in Klaipėda, on Senoji Smiltelės street, at the junction with Nemuno street, a BMW 545 registered in United States ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 28-year-old driver of the BMW (5 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance, failed to choose a safe speed and entered the oncoming traffic lane. He was drunk (1.24‰ blood alcohol). According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
