On Sunday, 25 September 2016, in the afternoon at around 16:00, in Alytaus district municipality, on the Kaunas–Prienai–Alytus national road (kilometre 55), a BMW X5 ran off the road. Two people were injured — the 43-year-old driver of the BMW (hospitalized) and a 20-year-old passenger of the BMW (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 43-year-old driver of the BMW (20 years of driving experience), who was driving fatigued and fell asleep at the wheel. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
