On Sunday, 1 January 2017, in the afternoon at 15:23, in Zarasų district municipality, Padustėlio village, on the Dusetos–Degučiai–Dūkštas national road (kilometre 0.89), a BMW 330 ran off the road. One person died — a 33-year-old passenger of the BMW. Two people were injured — the 21-year-old driver of the BMW (hospitalized) and a 23-year-old passenger of the BMW (severely injured, hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 21-year-old driver of the BMW (3 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.75‰ blood alcohol). At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
