On Saturday, 7 January 2017, at night at 0:45, in Marijampolės municipality, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 72.20), a collision with a stationary vehicle occurred. The collision involved a Scania registered in Estonia, a Mercedes-Benz Actros 1841 LS registered in Belarus, a Krone SDP27 registered in Belarus and a Koegel SN 24 registered in Estonia. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 65-year-old driver of the Scania (47 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
