On Monday, 9 January 2017, in the afternoon at 16:05, in Kazlų Rūdos municipality, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 39.77), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Passat Variant, an Audi A6 Avant and a Renault Master. Three people were injured — the 26-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient), a 43-year-old passenger of the Renault (treated as an outpatient) and the 24-year-old driver of the Audi (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 26-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (3 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance and failed to choose a safe speed. All drivers were sober.
