On Friday, 20 January 2017, in the afternoon at 13:35, in Šiaulių district municipality, on the Kuršėnai–Smilgiai–Aukštelkė regional road (kilometre 19.30), a collision while turning left (U-turning) occurred. The collision involved an Opel Signum and a Ford Mondeo. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 38-year-old driver of the Opel (16 years of driving experience), who committed other traffic rule violations, failed to give way when changing direction and violated warning-signal usage rules.
