On Friday, 27 January 2017, in the morning at 7:30, in Kalvarijos municipality, on the Vilkaviškis–Kalvarija regional road (kilometre 25.70), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a BMW X5 and a Toyota Avensis. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 24-year-old driver of the BMW, who violated overtaking rules and failed to choose a safe speed. He had no driving licence and fled the scene. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was twilight, it was overcast, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
