On Sunday, 5 February 2017, in the morning at 5:25, in Kazlų Rūdos municipality, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 44), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Peugeot 307 registered in Great Britain, a Schmitz SPR 24/L 13.62 and a MAN TGX 18.440 4X2BLS registered in Russia. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 22-year-old driver of the Peugeot (4 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
