On Friday, 10 March 2017, in the morning at 10:55, in Lazdijų district municipality, Mikniškių village, on the Rudamina–Šeštokai regional road (kilometre 4.18), a Volkswagen Passat Variant hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person died — a 44-year-old pedestrian. The accident was caused by an unidentified person, who violated overtaking rules and failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.77‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
