On Saturday, 25 March 2017, in the afternoon at 12:14, in Šalčininkų district municipality, on the Vilnius–Lyda main road (kilometre 29.96), a collision while turning left (U-turning) occurred. The collision involved a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 316 CDI and an Audi A3 WAHLW. Audi S3. Four people were injured — a 26-year-old passenger of the Audi (treated as an outpatient), the 26-year-old driver of the Audi (treated as an outpatient), a 40-year-old passenger of the Audi (severely injured, hospitalized) and a 35-year-old passenger of the Audi (severely injured, hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 22-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (4 years of driving experience), who failed to comply with road signs or markings, committed other traffic rule violations, failed to keep a safe distance and failed to choose a safe speed. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was overcast, it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
