On Wednesday, 12 April 2017, in the evening at around 20:00, in Anykščių district municipality, on the Vikonys–Piktagalys–Naujonys regional road (kilometre 3), a side collision with neither vehicle turning occurred. The collision involved a Mercedes-Benz C 200 CDI and an Audi A6. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 27-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz, who entered the oncoming traffic lane. He was drunk (2.47‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. At the time of the accident it was twilight, it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
