On Sunday, 21 May 2017, at night at 0:35, in Šalčininkų district municipality, on the Šalčininkai–Butrimonys–Eišiškės national road (kilometre 14.96), on a bridge, a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved an Audi A6 registered in Germany and a Mercedes-Benz E 220 CDI. Three people were injured — the 19-year-old driver of the Audi (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt), a 19-year-old passenger of the Audi (treated as an outpatient, was not wearing a seatbelt) and the 27-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 19-year-old driver of the Audi, who entered the oncoming traffic lane. He had no driving licence. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
