On Sunday, 6 August 2017, at night at around 4:00, in Varėnos district municipality, Valkininkų town, on the Vilnius–Varėna–Gardinas main road (kilometre 51.75), a Renault Scenic rolled over. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 35-year-old driver of the Renault. He had no driving licence and fled the scene. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
