On Saturday, 9 September 2017, at night at 2:30, in Kelmės district municipality, on the Šaukėnai–Vaiguva–Kalniškiai regional road (kilometre 8.11), a BMW 525 rolled over. One person was injured — a 45-year-old passenger of the BMW (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 26-year-old driver of the BMW (3 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (0.87‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, there was freezing rain, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
