On Monday, 18 December 2017, in the evening at around 17:00, in Kaunas, on Jonavos street near No. 172B, a Mitsubishi Colt hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. Two people were injured — a 19-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient) and a 18-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 66-year-old driver of the Mitsubishi (19 years of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
