On Friday, 22 December 2017, in the evening at 18:11, in Panevėžys, on Smėlynės street near No. 52, a BMW 525 hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. One person died — a 52-year-old pedestrian (later died from the injuries). The accident was caused by the 24-year-old driver of the BMW (5 years of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. The driver was sober.
