On Friday, 12 January 2018, in the evening at 17:10, in Kalvarijos municipality, Kušliškių village, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 81), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a DAF, a Mitsubishi Carisma, a trailer/semi-trailer > 10 t, a Berger and a Mercedes-Benz Actros. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 51-year-old driver of the DAF (20 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.46‰ blood alcohol). At the time of the accident it was twilight, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
