On Saturday, 13 January 2018, in the evening at 19:15, in Joniškio district municipality, on the Joniškis–Žagarė–Naujoji Akmenė national road (kilometre 13.50), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Citroen Xsara and a Toyota Avensis Verso. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 37-year-old driver of the Citroen, who failed to keep a safe distance. He was drunk (1.65‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
